Special Artifact on Loan to the Tubman Museum

Available through June 17, 2024

In commemoration of Memorial Day 2024, the family of Sergeant Rodney M. Davis has loaned a very special artifact to the Tubman African American Museum, a banner given to the Davis Family from the crew of the U.S.S. Rodney M. Davis in 2014. The banner is signed by members of the crew of the ship.

The U.S.S. Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60) was an Oliver Hazard Perry – class Guided Missile Frigate. The ship was commissioned on May 9, 1987, and de-commissioned on January 23, 2015. It was named in honor of Sergeant Rodney Maxwell Davis (1942 – 1967) who was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for acts of heroism and valor during the Vietnam war. Davis is Macon’s single Medal of Honor recipient.

The banner from the U.S.S. Rodney M. Davis will remain on view in the Tubman’s local history gallery through June 17, 2024.
