Black History Month
February 1 - February 28, 2025Black History Month began to honor the contributions and history of African Americans. It was established by historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926 as “Negro History Week” and later expanded to a month-long celebration in 1976.
February was chosen because it coincides with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two figures significant to African American history.
Now, it’s a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history.
This year, the Tubman Museum and AMAZON are partnering to celebrate Black History Month in Macon, Georgia.
