Each year the museum offers a series of workshops that enhance the reading and writing skills taught within the Bibb County School System. For 2008, the workshops have been restructured to have 43 third and fifth grade students from L. H. Williams Elementary School as the participants throughout the year. By working with the same students, we have a better chance of measuring and evaluating the impact of the workshops.

These workshops are organized with assistance from the Education Department at Macon State College and teachers at L. H. Williams Elementary. In the course of the year, students in Macon State’s Education Department will learn how to use museum resources to improve reading, writing, and math skills to meet Georgia Performance Standards guidelines.

For more information about this innovative program, please contact the Education Department at educationassistant@tubmanmuseum.com or 478-743-8544 ext 14.
